The Upgrade is Complete!
It seems that I have been able to upgrade this site to the latest version of the Joomla! CMS. Not too difficult, but it did take me a while to restore the database so the the Joomla! installation could convert it. I still have to make some changes, and mess around with the fancy stuff, but for now I have settled on this nice site template, which comes free from the good folks at SiteGround (see their links at the left and the bottom).
I have also upgraded my blog site (The Boomer Blog - on the main menu at the left) to the latest version of the B2evolution blog software. I have a new political discussion board (liberal) site, called The Reverse SPIN, up and running, a semi-commercial photography site called Photos R Free, and I'm working on getting my poetry back online with a site called My Life in a Poem.
This is all made possible by the Open Source community who provide all the great software that I am using (plus some I've paid for). The Internet runs on Open Source, which is as it should be!

Bogus Users Registering on this SIte?
I have been getting a constant stream of users registering here that do not seem to have anything to do with the name Desautel. They register with minimal information, and they all have email addresses at gmail.com. None of them have ever contacted me, or responded to my email to them. I have been deleting these users, except for one that I gave author privileges to (to see if they would post something). This is happening with increasing frequency.
If you register here, please use the "Contact Us" link and let me know who you are.
Thanks,
Dave
Retirement At Last!
I have made the decision to retire when I reach my 62nd birthday on January 31st, 2009. I've already made the announcement to my boss at work. So, what are my plans??
So, as some of you know, I have a small house on 15 acres of land in
I already have a web site up (http://www.photosrfree.com) where I let visitors download low-resolution versions of the picture files for free, or they can pay a small amount ($5 - $15) for the higher resolution version. Later, I plan to also offer a link to another site where they could order prints or specialty items.
I also own a 36-foot class A motor home (actually the bank and I own it), and after retiring I can see myself traveling around the country (depending on gasoline prices), taking pictures for my web site.
The one sour note in these plans is that I do not have a significant other to share this life with me, but I will be looking to change that as well.
Dave
