Back At Work?

So, it is the 2nd week in March.  It turns out that they could not hire a replacement for me prior to my retirement date.  So, the first week in March I did not work, but moved to my house in Sequim instead.  But I am now back at work this week and next week to train my replacement, who started last Monday.

I am staying at a motel, and will have all my expenses reimbursed.

It Is Getting Closer!

I am down to two weeks left before I retire!!  Actually, because of a couple days off I have to take (won't get paid for floating holidays), I only have 7 work days left in my working life!  So weird!

The thought of not having to go to work ever again is very alien to my brain.  I believe I am ready and I know I need to have plenty to do, but it is still very strange.  It seems that I have always been working hard for the future without the future ever really getting here.  Now that it is here, I have no one to share it with.

These last two weeks, and the first two weeks in March, are going to be very busy.  Trying to transfer knowledge and process to others at work, and then in March moving out of my apartment and into my house in Sequim permanently, will be a busy time.  But it is an exciting and happy time as well.

Life Just Keeps Moving Along

Well, it has been a while since I've added any updates here. I am still working full time, and that keeps life pretty busy. So, here is what is happening:

  1. My planned retirement date is now at the end of February, so my last day of work is 2/27/09. I had planned to retire at the end of this month, on my 62nd birthday, but they asked me to stay another month.
  2. I am not making any headway in finding  a new significant other.  I am done with EHarmony, but I am still on Match.com, Yahoo Personals, and some others.  I am thinking about putting up my own site.

That's it for now.  Not much else happening, but I will be much more active here and on my blog site once I retire.

Looking for Ms. Right!

I am currently looking online to meet my new other half.  I have accounts at Eharmony, Match.com, and Yahoo Personals.  I am looking for a younger woman, but not terribly younger.  I like the idea of compatibility testing and personality matching, but we all know that a lot of that goes out the window when we see the potential partner's pictures.

When I first started reading profiles, I was surprised by how many women in their 40's and 50's were looking for YOUNGER men.  Is this something that has changed, or is it just that I am looking at a different age group now?  In my younger years, women seemed to be generally more interested in older men.

In any case, I am 61 and primarily interested in women from the late 30's to the middle 50's.  Is that wrong?  I have always been younger looking than my actual age, and mentally and emotionally I have also been younger than my years (still am).  Physically, I can still do a slow jog on a treadmill for more than 20 minutes straight, and walk as far as I want to.  I've had some health problems, but there is nothing that is currently slowing me down .  I believe I am a little unique in all of this.

Where I believe I am even more unique is in my attitude towards women and relationships in general.  Call it the opposite of "macho," but I look for total equality between partners in a relationship.  Honesty, respect, and integrity should be mutual.  At the same time, the partnership should be a single entity with no importance placed on who makes the most money or has the most intelligence.  The partnership is larger than the sum of its parts.
